The season opener proved to be a harsh introduction to varsity baseball for Bonanza, as the Antlers fell 25-0 to Oakridge on the road Tuesday afternoon. The Warriors capitalized on every opportunity in the non-league matchup, building an insurmountable lead that highlighted the work ahead for the young Antlers squad. Bonanza struggled to find answers both at the plate and on the mound against an experienced Oakridge team that has consistently competed at a high level in recent seasons. While the final score was lopsided, season openers often reveal areas for improvement that coaches can address in practice. The Antlers will need to regroup quickly and focus on the fundamentals that can help them compete more effectively in upcoming games. First-year varsity players gained valuable experience against quality competition, even in defeat. Bonanza drops to 0-1 on the young season but has plenty of time to develop chemistry and improve throughout the campaign. The Antlers will look to bounce back in their next outing as they continue building toward league play.
